Ensuring Kitchen Fun with Baby Safety in Mind

In every household, the kitchen serves as a bustling hub where families come together to cook, dine, and create cherished memories. However, amidst the laughter and culinary delights, parents and caregivers must remain vigilant about potential hazards for their curious little ones. With just a few simple tweaks and mindful changes, you can transform this culinary haven into a safe space for all family members.

Kitchen Safety Tips:

  • Secure Knife Blocks: Place knife blocks in cupboards that are out of reach from tiny hands, or push them towards the back of the bench, safely against the wall.
  • Mind the Burners: When cooking, utilise the back burners on the stove first and turn pot handles away from the edge. If using all burners, opt for back burners for high-temperature cooking and front burners for lower-temperature tasks.
  • Store Household Products Safely: Keep cleaning and household products in high and preferably locked cupboards, away from the curious eyes and hands of children.
  • Tidy Up Appliance Cords: Ensure appliance cords are not dangling off the side of the bench. When not in use, neatly put away the appliances.
  • Check Oven and Dishwasher Locks: Confirm if your oven and dishwasher have child lock options. If not, consider attaching an oven lock to the door or use a multi-lock on the dishwasher.
  • Chop with Care: Be cautious when chopping food on the bench, ensuring nothing falls to the floor, which could become a choking hazard for babies.
  • Elevate Magnets: Move low-lying magnets to higher positions, out of reach from babies and toddlers. Magnets pose a significant choking risk for small children.
  • Use Latches and Clips: Install latches and clips on drawers containing items unsuitable for children to play with, such as glassware or alcohol cabinets.
  • Teach Kitchen Safety: Educate your toddler about key kitchen safety rules, emphasising that the stove is hot and should never be touched. Create safe zones around the oven to avoid any potential mishaps.
  • Supervise Always: Most importantly, never leave your child unsupervised in the kitchen. Babies and toddlers are curious explorers, and their safety is best ensured when under watchful eyes.

By incorporating these safety measures, you can enjoy delightful kitchen moments with your little ones without any worries. Remember, baby- proofing your kitchen doesn’t mean compromising on family fun; it simply means creating a secure and joyful environment for everyone. So, let’s cook up safety together and make cherished kitchen memories that last a lifetime.

Fantastic Service

Fantastic service. Mitch gives great advice on baby proofing. He opened our eyes to where we needed to baby proof and also saved us money by making sure we didn’t “over baby proof” our house. He was tidy and did a great job installing baby proofing around our house. Thanks again we will definitely refer you to our friends and family!

Greatly Appreciated

I would like to thank Mitch for his help in “Twinado” proofing our living areas. His prompt and efficient service is greatly appreciated (though not by the twins, they were less than impressed that they could no longer get into my DVD cabinets!)

Prompt & Reliable Service

I contacted First Steps Safe Steps to install safety gates. They offered an appointment 2 days later and came at the agreed time. Mitchell was able to fix all our problems on the spot and provided further advice. We choose the roller blind gates that have a slim and discreet look. Thanks so much Mitchell for the prompt and reliable service. We now have more freedom and peace of mind while caring for our little 1 year old. I definitely recommend their services.

Fantastic Experience

I had a fantastic experience with First Steps Safe Steps today…

It was SO easy…I rang Mitchell (the owner) to arrange a time, he then visited our house, assessed what was needed to ‘baby proof’, provided a quote, and then installed all requested items…all within two hours!

Mitchell was super friendly and polite, did a great job, cleaned up afterwards, and even offered to do an odd job that he noticed while there. I can’t recommend it more highly!!
